When you are a child of God, there is nothing that Satan, the enemy of your soul, can do to separate you from Him [Romans 8]. This doesn’t stop him from trying, though. One of the biggest and meanest ways he does this is to use fear tactics. He knows that if he can lie to us and make us doubt who we are and what God can do through us, he knows that he can get us to hand over our power – the power that God has given us as His child. If he can convince us that greater is he who is in the world than He who is in us, he has succeeded at warping our whole worldview. He knows if he can make our view of God small, our faith will be small, also.
Recently, I have been reading through Fervent, a Woman’s Battle Plan of Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer by Priscilla Shirer. Honey, let me tell you, if you haven’t read this book, you need to now! Read this paragraph-long quote concerning why we need a strategy to win the battle…
Strategies? Yes. Because as you may have noticed, the battles your enemy wages against you – especially the most acute, consistent ones – possess a personality to them, an intimate knowledge of who you are and the precise pressure points where you can most easily be taken down. Random accident? Lucky guess? I don’t think so. These areas of greatest fear and anxiety in your life are clues to some important spiritual information. They reveal, among other things, that a personalized strategy has been insidiously put in place to destroy your vibrancy and render you defeated. It’s been drawn up on the blackboard by someone who knows where you live and whom you love, knows your customary tendencies, and knows from long experience how best to exploit every single one of them. And maybe up until now, it’s been working. Fervent, page 7
One of the topics I just spoke on at the Indiana homeschool conference was knowing what a fitting education is for our children. As I was preparing for this workshop, I consistently felt the Holy Spirit redirecting my attention from what would have been my usual approach to addressing this topic. There was a tugging in my spirit as He pointed me toward the fact that no matter what method we use (in the workshop I speak about the Charlotte Mason approach), the goal of our children’s education – whether they are homeschooled or attend a Christian school – should be preparing the next generation of God’s people. And this preparation starts with establishing a family-wide Biblical worldview.
I have spoken with enough parents to know how much fear has become part of our outlook. Who can blame us? Anyone with eyes and ears can see that our culture is at a place that it has never been before!
As I stood and spoke to the group of parents gathered for the workshop, I prayed that God would give me the words to speak. Words that would bring truth like arrows through any fear that had come into that room.
These are the highlights of that talk:
A fitting education prepares the student because it takes into account the major cultural issues of our current world and gives the student a firm foundation of truth concerning them.
A fitting education builds academic success based on a foundation of a strong Biblical worldview. It builds up the student spiritually, encouraging them and enabling them to be the mighty warriors God has called them to be in their generation.
And here’s the thing: Actions speak louder than words! Parents, our lives are going to teach our children a million times more than any curriculum or method we use. So, it’s up to us to dig in and gain the Biblical worldview we need to lead our families in the right direction – to the foot of the cross.
In His strength, we can stand strong, and march on.
Ephesians 6:10-18New Living Translation (NLT)
The Whole Armor of God
10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we[a] are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.[b] 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.[c] 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
