    my THM story…

Over the last three and a half months, I’ve been on a journey of taking my health back. I had noticed that over the last three years, I had been putting on weight. Being someone who has never really struggled with weight (and having the ability to carry it “well”), I wasn’t too worried. I hadn’t been on a scale in over two years, but I knew that there was more of me than there used to be! I had gone up a size in shirts, and the jeans I used to be able to slip into with no problem were cutting me in half when I sat down. I…

    Created for Today

“Even the very hardest of all todays has a gift in it. Psalm 23:4 says, "Even when I walk through the darkest valley [some versions say "the valley of the shadow of death"], I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me." In my experience, those darkest todays teach me the presence of the Shepherd unlike any of the brightest todays of my life. His comfort and peace show up the brightest and most precious in the darkest times.”

This coming March, my eldest child turns 25 years old. [It’s completely shocking.] I thought I would share with you 20 of my hard-earned nuggets of wisdom, learned over the years of parenting my four kids. They are not necessarily in order of importance, mostly because I couldn’t decide which were more important than the others… So here are they are in random order. Write down the funny things they say Kids say the darndest things! At the time that they say them, we think that we will always remember every word, but after a couple of years, the exact wording and even the context starts to slip away. Take…

    Why Worldview Matters to Me

John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Genesis 3:1 “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God really say…?” John 8:44 “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your…

Rocking Ordinary by Lea Ann Garfias Review

In all of my years of interacting with members of my own gender, I have never met one who is not hard on herself. Whether it is about her size and weight or the tidiness of her house, she is her own worst critic. As a woman, I have rarely found a book that both encourages me with a hug and convicts me with the truth I need to hear. This book did both. And it did far more. Author, Lea Ann Garfias, addresses every key area of our seemingly ordinary lives, bravely shining the light of God’s holy Word into those shadowy places where doubts and fears grow and insecurity and…

A tough old marine & his little girl

People have often asked me why I do what I do…why I have such a passion to help families give their children an education (built on relationship) at home. The answer to that is tightly woven and wound around strands of silky threads of memory – strands so fragile, like a spider’s webbing. These memories, laced and interwoven, are the tough-as-steel-cable foundation of who I am and how I look at the world. They are where my dad lives. It’s amazing to me how forgiving a child can be…my dad wasn’t perfect – in fact, on his deathbed, he poured out his anguish of regrets and sorrow for the mistakes…

Getting to the Heart of Your Child’s Behavior – Guest author, Ginger Hubbard

Recently, I was given the wonderful opportunity to read and possibly endorse a revolutionary, new book. I was so impressed with Ginger Hubbard’s I Can’t Believe You Just Said That!, that I wanted to recommend this book to all of you, and allow her to speak directly to you on an issue about which she and I both share deep conviction: getting to the heart of our children’s behavior. It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to my guest author, Ginger Hubbard.
