This Week in History ~ All About Abraham Lincoln & the Civil War!
November 6, 1860 – Abraham Lincoln Elected President
On November 6, 1860, America began a new chapter in its history when Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th President of the United States. His leadership came at a time when the country was divided over big issues like slavery and fairness. Lincoln believed that everyone deserved freedom and that the nation should stay together as one. His election gave people hope for a better and more united America — a true new beginning for the country. Fun fact: Abraham Lincoln loved animals so much that he once pardoned a turkey that was meant for dinner — starting the tradition of the presidential turkey pardon we still celebrate today!
